Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the presidential race on Friday, leaving former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris as the last two candidates in the race.
In the highly anticipated speech, RFK criticized the Democratic Party for abandoning its core values and supported Trump, leading many in his family to publicly denounce him on social media.
“Democracy may still be alive at the grassroots level, but in our political institutions, in our media, in our government and, sadly for me above all, in the Democratic Party, it has become little more than a slogan,” RFK said in his speech.
meanwhile Sara Gonzalez Sara Gonzalez, the editor-in-chief of Unfiltered, is grateful that he's on Trump's side, but isn't convinced his support will sway independent voters.
“It's interesting to think about who his supporters really are, because his platform is so fragmented,” Gonzalez said. “He's a crazy environmentalist who wants crazy climate change proposals. It's reminiscent of the radical left.”
“But he wants to completely reform Big Pharma, the FDA and the CDC,” she continued. “And he's obviously a notorious vaccine skeptic.”
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has faced criticism from her left-wing supporters for not being pro-Palestinian enough.
“You have to imagine that there's not going to be enthusiasm to go and vote for Kamala on Election Day or during early voting,” Gonzalez said. “Obviously, there may be independents who don't feel like voting for Trump, but do you really think they're going to go to the polls on Election Day and vote for Kamala Harris?”
Eric July agrees.
“Given his record, he's a Democrat, and given those two things, he's going to draw more money from Democrats,” he said. “So, given everything you just said, it's either going to hurt or it's going to benefit Trump more than anything.”
