Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Friday criticized President Biden for referring to the Russia-Ukraine war in a speech marking the anniversary of the Normandy landings.
During his speech on Friday, Biden asked several hypothetical questions about how soldiers who fought in the Normandy landings would react to the current situation in Eastern Europe.
“Does anyone doubt that America wants to stand up? [Russian President Vladimir] “Today, with Putin committing acts of aggression in Europe, does anyone believe that the Rangers today would want America to act alone,” he asked. “Does anyone doubt that they would not move heaven and earth to defeat today’s hateful ideology?”
Biden also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in France and apologized for delays in providing financial assistance to the war-torn country.
Kennedy, who has been a vocal critic of additional US aid to Ukraine, attacked the commander in chief, saying the current conflict in Ukraine is not the same as World War II. In social media posts, the independent candidate claimed he was the only 2024 presidential candidate to make “peace” a priority.
As Jeffrey Sachs pointed out in a recent interview with Tucker, the U.S. and NATO have “been through 30 years of provocation and have not accepted peace as an answer,” Kennedy said. wrote on social media platform X. “The situation in Ukraine today is not the same as it was during World War II.”
“The president of the United States cannot lightly engage in historic military sabotage with a nuclear-armed nation — it puts the world at risk, undermines our moral and intellectual standing, and dishonors the sacrifice of our soldiers,” he added. “Peace goes hand in hand with truth. I am the only candidate in this race who makes that a priority.”
Kennedy has been actively campaigning to qualify for a debate between Biden and former President Trump later this month and has said Biden should drop out of the race, pointing to polls showing he has a good chance of beating Trump.
Independent candidates also argue that being denied debate participation is an attack on democracy.
“President Trump and President Biden are conspiring to lock America into a head-to-head confrontation that 70% of Americans do not want,” Kennedy wrote last month. In X’s post“They are trying to exclude me from the debate because they are afraid I will win. Barring a viable candidate from the debate stage undermines democracy,” he added.
His election campaign Announced On Friday, they submitted the signatures needed to gain access to the ballot in Minnesota, surpassing the qualification for 270 electoral votes. The campaign said it has gained access to the ballot in nine states and has collected enough signatures to gain access in at least 10 others.
