The sister of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has slammed him for his support of former President Trump as a “baffling attempt” to tarnish her father’s memory.
Former presidential candidate Kerry Kennedy’s sister slammed her brother for his support of Trump on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.” Kennedy’s brother voiced his support for Trump on Friday after suspending his own campaign.
“I am outraged and disgusted by my brother’s ostentatious and obscene support of Donald Trump, and I am completely distancing myself from and severing ties with Robert Kennedy Jr. in this egregious and inexplicable attempt to desecrate, trample and burn the memory of my father,” Kerry Kennedy said Sunday.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s family, including Kerry Kennedy, in a statement Friday opposed his support for the former president, calling it “a betrayal of the values our father and our family hold most dear.”
Kerry Kennedy on Sunday reiterated her support for Vice President Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), saying that if her father, Donald Trump, were alive today, she “would have hated almost everything he represents.”
“The November election will be more important than ever, which is why our family will be fighting hard to re-elect Senator Kamala Harris and Coach Walz, who have both been champions of the values our family has sought for so many years,” she said.
“Donald Trump is the exact opposite. He is a threat to most fundamental freedoms that are at the core of who we are as Americans, including a woman’s right to control her own body, the right to live in communities free of gun violence, and the right to love who we love,” she added.
Since he first announced his candidacy for president last year, his family has consistently denied RFK Jr.’s status as an independent candidate. Kerry Kennedy also stressed the importance of the November election and defeating Trump.
“I think Donald Trump is a huge danger to us all, and I think what Bobby has done here is abhorrent to everything. [what] “It’s not about what our family believes, it’s about what Bobby has dedicated his life to. You know, he has worked for many years to protect the environment, and that is the exact opposite of what Trump plans to do,” she said.
