The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is cutting 10,000 full-time employees as part of efforts to reduce fat and reorient the sector around Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s “Make America Health Again” (Maha) agenda.
“We're not just cutting back on bureaucratic sprawl. We're re-aligning our organization with our core missions and new priorities in reverse the chronic disease epidemic.” I said In a press release on Thursday. “This department will do more – more – Low cost for taxpayers. ”
The 10,000 cut job, along with the 10,000 employees who chose to leave after President Donald Trump began his second term. Around Wall Street Journal.
The ultimate goal of “overhaul” is to focus HHS on the “end of the American chronic disease epidemic” by focusing on safe and healthy foods, clean water and eliminating environmental toxins.
The restructuring will allow the department to scale back 82,000 to 62,000 full-time employees and “fulfil multiple goals without impacting critical services.” The department said the effort would save taxpayers $1.8 billion.
Part of the streamlining effort will include reducing 28 current divisions of HHS, including “many redundant units,” to 15 new divisions, including the New Administration for Healthy Americans (AHA). Core functions such as human resources, information technology, procurement, diplomacy and policy will be centralised, and local offices will also be reduced from 10 to 5.
The plan also transfers administration to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for Strategic Preparation and Response (ASPR) to handle National Disasters and Public Health Emergency Responses.
“As time goes by, bureaucrats like HHS become futile and inefficient even when most staff are dedicated and capable civil servants,” said Secretary Kennedy. “This overhaul is beneficial to both taxpayers and those who are useful to HHS. It's the whole American masses, because our goal is to make America healthy again.”
The HHS is a sector of about $2 trillion, houses the country's health agencies and distributes almost 25% of the federal budget.
