Griffin Questions Decision to Keep Daniels in Game After Injury
Robert Griffin III raised a crucial question following Jaden Daniels’ serious arm injury during the Commanders’ heavy defeat to Seattle: Why was he still playing?
In a TikTok video, the former Washington quarterback pointed out the unsettling similarity to a past game against the Seahawks. Many viewers were puzzled as to why the already battered Daniels continued to compete with less than eight minutes remaining and the game well out of reach at 38-7.
“I just watched Jayden Daniels get hurt…we were down 38-7 with seven minutes left, and my first thought was, ‘Why is he still in there?'” Griffin remarked. “He was injured. We wanted to ensure he was completely healthy before the bye week.”
This season, Daniels has struggled with knee and hamstring issues and was taken down by Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas late in the game.
He fell to the ground in visible pain, seemingly dislocating his elbow. Although he underwent an X-ray, the results came back negative.
Following the game, Washington coach Dan Quinn faced criticism regarding his decision-making around the QB’s injury.
“I prefer not to dwell on the potential for injury,” Quinn stated to reporters after the 38-14 loss. “We tend to take a more cautious approach in situations without a lead, but we’re focused on the outcome. Naturally, I’m disappointed.”
Many observers expressed outrage at the coach’s choice to leave Daniels in the game, especially given his history of injuries.
“It’s practically medical malpractice to let him out there. It’s unbelievable,” commented Kevin Sheehan, a radio host based in Washington.
ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt also questioned the decision, stating, “When the drive started, I wondered why he was still in.” Another commentator remarked, “Why is Jaden Daniels still in the game while down 31 points with eight minutes remaining and already hampered?”
This recent loss brings the Commanders to a 3-6 record, a sharp decline from their NFC Championship status last year.
As for Daniels, his return this season is uncertain.
The Commanders are set to face the Lions next Sunday.
