Ricardo, the famous Texas Longhorn bull who was photographed running through railroad tracks in Newark after escaping from a slaughterhouse, has been battling an infection since Christmas.
But staff at Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue are bullish on his recovery.
The ferocious bull arrived at the sanctuary in Wantage, New Jersey, with a 500-yen “road scar” on his right hind leg, according to the facility's Facebook page.
On Christmas Eve, Ricardo's wound became inflamed and he was taken to Cornell Animal Hospital.
“The doctors took a sample of the infection that was there and sent it to the lab to make sure the antibiotics were on the right track. He wanted the skin to heal faster. I am wearing a cast to prevent my leg from bending at the hock.” sanctum said at that time.
The shelter added: “It looks like he will be in the hospital for a while, possibly several weeks.”
