Davion Hook Suffers Serious Injury in Almond Force Bowl
During Friday’s Almond Force Bowl against Texas State at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Rice safety Daavion Hook was taken off the field after sustaining a significant injury.
Hook was on the field for quite some time as medical staff examined him before he was transported to a nearby hospital on a stretcher for further evaluation.
This incident unfolded late in the third quarter, with the Owls trailing Texas State 41-10.
Hook, hailing from Cibolo, Texas, was injured while making a tackle and collided with a Bobcats defensive lineman, which appeared to affect his head or neck.
He lay still on the field for an extended period while care teams worked on him.
Medical personnel stabilized Hook’s neck as they carried him off the field.
During the pause in the game, several Rice players gathered on the field to pray for Hook.
After the game concluded, the team reported that Hook was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for continued assessments, but he was able to feel movement in his arms.
“He had feel and movement everywhere,” Rice head coach Scott Abel stated after the game. “Of course, we’re being very cautious. I don’t have all the details right now, so I prefer not to comment too much.”
He also added, “I’ll make sure to check on him as soon as possible. He seemed to be doing alright when he was leaving.”
This injury was particularly pivotal for the Owls, who entered the game with a 5-7 record and were up against a formidable Texas team.
In his fourth year at Rice, Hook has played in 37 games, accumulating 95 tackles, and has even earned All-Academic honors from the American Athletic Conference.
