Rich Eisen goes off on Juan Soto for one particular Mets remark

Rich Eisen couldn't believe what he was hearing from Juan Soto.

After playing one season with the Yankees, Soto signed a 15-year contract worth $765 million with the Mets across town.

Eisen, a lifelong Yankees fan, wasn't angry with Soto about the financial decision itself, but he did take issue with an odd comment the superstar outfielder made during his induction press conference.

“This has been a Mets town for a long time,” Soto said.

Aizen was confused.

“I fell in love with this,” Eisen said on his eponymous multiplatform show. “In the last paragraph of the ESPN article, you read about what happened yesterday: Juan Soto: “This has been the Mets' city for a long time.'' What is he talking about? Juan, I'm from New York City I have lived in the city for 55 years. He's been around since the proverbial New York moment. Hey, get out of here. Make that noise and get out of here. It's just like here in Los Angeles. Clipper town? Get out of here. Is it Mets Town? Yes, in my head. He only lived as a Yankee for one year. ”

Eisen continued to praise this choice of words.

“Don't tell me this nonsense that this has been a Mets town for a long time. Has it been a while?” he asked.

Eisen compared the respective pedigrees of the two franchises.

“Guess what? 100 years of championships by the Yankees,” he said. “The Mets have 1969 and 1986. Get out of here…so you don't lose your shit.”

Soto spent last season with the Yankees after being traded from the Padres. He helped the Bronx Bombers advance to the World Series for the first time since 2009.
