Famed actor Richard Dreyfuss has never been a fan of the political correctness that’s taking over Hollywood, but it all came to a head over Memorial Day weekend in Beverly, Massachusetts, at an event called “An Evening Screening of ‘Jaws’ with Richard Dreyfuss.”
Dreyfuss appeared on stage completely covered by a dress and launched into a tirade that attendees described as transphobic, sexist and homophobic.
Attendees recalled that Dreyfuss called Barbra Streisand a “genius” but called women “passive” and said that’s why her movie “Nuts” was “boring.” He also reportedly made derogatory remarks about the Me Too movement and opposed listening to transgender youth.
While fans across the country were shocked, Glenn Beck We spoke with Dreyfuss last year and got some real insight into the actor’s beliefs that fans probably won’t understand.
“He wasn’t a Hollywood insider. He’s here to sound the alarm, to defend the Constitution, to stir up healthy dissent, to defend the lone voice. He said right before the podcast that I was the one who exposed him in Hollywood,” Glenn said on “The Glenn Beck Podcast” last year.
“What I didn’t realize was when I apologized he said, ‘Oh no, that was one of the best things that ever happened to me.’ He’s been all about saving America,” he added.
And Dreyfus himself confirmed this.
“Today, we have people who think that dissent is un-American. They don’t realize that dissent is intertwined with the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and what we believe in and show the world,” Dreyfuss told Glenn, noting that kids these days aren’t learning history the way they used to, or should.
“I think that if you let your kids decide what’s valuable and what’s nurturing, you’re definitely going to turn to the wrong people,” he explained.
Before ending the conversation, Dreyfuss left Glenn with some valuable wisdom, which was far from what fans upset by his performance over the weekend believe he can do.
“I’m infuriated that people don’t understand what this place means, how far this country has come in human progress, and how quickly we’re abandoning it without a second thought,” Dreyfuss told Glenn.
“I once said, we hold a pearl in our hands, and then we think, ‘Oh, who cares,’ and we throw it down, and it falls to the top of the stairs, and we trip over it, and we fall in this constant state of corruption, and then we finally get to Donald Trump, and every great idea, every great deed that we’ve given to humanity is belittled, and that’s what really pains me.”
“I don’t understand why people who are in a position to enhance our reputation would choose to tarnish it, to tarnish it. I just can’t understand it,” he concluded.
