Richard Dreyfuss Steps Back from Fan Events Due to Bronchitis
Richard Dreyfuss, the iconic star of “Jaws,” shared his unfortunate news about being diagnosed with a serious bout of bronchitis. The 77-year-old actor took to social media on Friday, addressing fans ahead of Sharkcon in Tampa, Florida, and expressing his regret over the situation.
In a video posted on Sharkcon’s Instagram, Dreyfuss summarized his condition, saying, “Hello, the cons of my peers. I am very sorry to tell you that I have been diagnosed with the virus. What is that?” His wife, Svetlana Erokin, chimed in off-camera to clarify, “Bronchitis.”
“The doctor informed me that I couldn’t fly, and getting there would involve a five-hour flight. I was really looking forward to this event,” he explained, feeling saddened by the cancellation.
Dreyfuss expressed his anxiety over missing the event and potentially exposing fans to such a contagious illness. “But I must prioritize my health,” he noted, adding with a touch of humor, “I hope you’ll regret it as much as I do.” Even so, he remained optimistic, stating he appreciated having some time to focus on recovery.
Svetlana, lending her support, added, “And such a great fan!”
Sharkcon’s official response indicated that all prepaid signings and photo ops would receive automatic refunds, with an apology for any inconvenience caused.
Dreyfuss’s representatives have yet to respond to inquiries for further comments.
