Richard Simmons, fitness icon, dead at 76: report

Fitness icon Richard Simmons has reportedly passed away at the age of 76.

Simmons, known for his “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” workout videos, just celebrated his 76th birthday on Friday.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that emergency responders were dispatched to Simmons’ Los Angeles home after a 76-year-old man went into cardiac arrest, but Simmons was not identified as the patient. The patient was pronounced dead at the scene of natural causes, according to the LAFD.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that officers responded to Simmons’ home and that the death investigation was concluded at 10 a.m. this morning.

His death was confirmed by his agent, according to ABC News.

“I’ve never received so many birthday wishes in my life!” Simmons wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.

The former fitness coach, who retired from public view a decade ago, said in an interview with People magazine this week that he was “grateful” to “live another day” after his skin cancer diagnosis.

He planned to blow out a candle for the occasion, “but I’m going to put it on a piece of zucchini. As you know, I’m a vegetarian.”

“I’m grateful to be here and to be alive another day,” he continued. “I’m going to spend my birthday helping people, like I do every day.”
