Rick Jackson secures Republican nomination for governor of Georgia

Jackson Wins Republican Primary in Georgia Gubernatorial Race

Rick Jackson triumphed over Bert Jones in the Republican primary runoff for Georgia’s next governor.

According to the Associated Press, Jackson secured 52.7% of the votes counted, with Jones receiving 47.3% as of Tuesday evening.

Bert Jones, the state’s Lieutenant Governor, gained notable support last summer from President Donald Trump, who remarked on his popularity and respect within the party. Trump highlighted Jones’ loyalty to the MAGA agenda in his endorsement.

“As the first member of the Georgia State Legislature to endorse Donald J. Trump, Jones has demonstrated strong character,” Trump stated. He went on to praise Jones for his resilience, mentioning his successful business background and his athletic achievements in college football.

Jackson, who hails from a long-standing Georgia family, has been a prominent figure in the state, having stepped into the role of Lieutenant Governor in 2022. His campaign focuses on significant issues including tax reform, K-12 education that emphasizes parental choice, and support for law enforcement, particularly in tackling the fentanyl crisis.

Jones’ policies advocate for reducing income tax rates to 4.99% by 2027, ensuring the integrity of women’s sports by prohibiting men’s participation, and investing in vocational training to enhance the workforce. He also garnered support from organizations like Turning Point Action and GA Second Amendment.

As the founder of Jackson Healthcare, Rick Jackson refers to himself as a “no-brainer” candidate. His company, which operates nationwide, yields over $3 billion in annual revenue.

In his campaign, Jackson aims to make Georgia the most affordable state in the U.S. His plans include a property tax freeze, halving state income taxes within four years, and potentially abolishing them entirely in eight years. He has also pledged to eliminate diversity and inclusion programs within state and educational institutions and to restrict transgender individuals from competing in women’s sports or using women’s facilities.

Furthermore, Jackson expresses strong backing for law enforcement and advocates for the deportation of undocumented immigrants. He is set to face Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, in the upcoming general election in November.
