New Campaign in NYC Shows Appreciation for NYPD

New York City has launched a campaign called “Thank You, NYPD,” aimed at expressing gratitude towards the police department.

This initiative encourages residents to share videos that showcase their appreciation for the officers who work to keep the city safe. Recently, Rick Pitino, the head coach of St. John’s University, joined in by sharing his own thanks in a video posted on Madison Square Garden’s Instagram account.

In the video, Pitino remarked, “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the NYPD officers who do an amazing job keeping our city safe. Thank you very much.” This heartfelt message came just before the Red Storm’s first-round game in the men’s NCAA Tournament.

During the campaign, a special concert will take place at Madison Square Garden featuring performances from various artists, including Cyndi Lauper, John Fogerty, and rapper Fat Joe, among others. It’s noteworthy that St. John’s plays many of its home games at this iconic venue.

Madison Square Garden released a statement saying, “Today, we announced ‘Thank You, NYPD,’ a campaign that encourages all New Yorkers to appreciate the contributions of the New York Police Department to our great city.”

The upcoming private event, set for March 28, will invite uniformed officers, civilian staff, and their families. The organizers also called on residents to submit personal video messages of thanks.

Comedians Chris DiStefano and Sam Morrill are slated to perform at the concert. Jim Dolan, the CEO of MSG Entertainment, emphasized that the event isn’t about politics but is a genuine expression of thanks to the police force.

In a recent statement, Dolan pointed out the sometimes negative perception of law enforcement in today’s culture. He noted that phrases like “defund the police” don’t reflect the majority feelings of New Yorkers. He hopes this concert will serve as a reminder that many appreciate the hard work and dedication of the NYPD.
