Rickey Henderson, a Baseball Hall of Famer and MLB's all-time stolen base leader, has passed away, the Post reported.
He was 65 years old and passed away in the Oakland area on Friday after battling pneumonia, according to TMZ.
A 10-time All-Star and 1990 American League MVP, Henderson stole 1,406 bases during his career, a record that still stands as the all-time leader in stolen bases in MLB history.
He also leads MLB with 2,295 points.
He played for nine teams during a prolific 25-year career, spending most of that time with the Athletics, playing 14 seasons across multiple stints.
He also played a total of seven years in New York, five with the Yankees (1985-89) and two with the Mets (1999-2000).
One of his Bronx teammates expressed his condolences on Saturday.
“I still can't believe we lost my favorite teammate and great friend Rickey Henderson. May he rest in peace,” former Yankees teammate Dave Winfield wrote on Instagram. Ta.
