PGA Tour veteran Rickie Fowler clashed with a golf fan Saturday afternoon during the third round of The Players Championship.

Fowler was ready to tee up on the par-5 16th hole, which was one over in the tournament at the time. However, when he made contact, an awkward one-handed finish appeared on the broadcast, immediately firing his finger at someone in the gallery to his right.

“You!” he yelled at someone.

“What are you doing?” asked Fowler’s caddy Ricky Romano.

The individual’s cell phone was said to have been going off, and Romano repeatedly instructed Fowler to turn off his phone before he went to the tee.

However, the person clearly did not silence the phone, and Fowler heard the call as he was about to take a swing. Of course, golf etiquette requires players to be silent when swinging their clubs.

Fortunately for Fowler, his 523-yard tee shot landed in the fairway. However, he continued to converse with the person while the broadcast showed the ball landing on Shortstuff.

However, Fowler ended up hitting a 7 on the 16th hole for double bogey, potentially extending his round to four over. That’s how things ended, with Fowler hitting 1-over on the front nine and 3-over on the back after bogey, bogey, birdie and double bogey on holes 13 through 16.

Fowler started the tournament Thursday at 2 over with bogeys on the last two holes of his round. But he appeared to be back on track after qualifying with a 3-under 69 in the second round and heading into the weekend under par.

Fowler, 35, is used to reacting to what’s going on in the gallery, infamously shrugging his shoulders at one onlooker who commented, “What are you doing?” When he made a putt short during a past tournament.
