Rory McIlroy recently made headlines after making a 180-degree change in his opinion of LIV golf. He even went so far as to say the Tour should “bring them back.” Even though he, one of the PGA Tour’s leading voices, has changed his tune, not all players feel the same way.
Rickie Fowler is one such golfer.
Fowler is one of those players who has largely fallen out of LIV golf contention.
After Thursday’s round Fowler finished without a bogey. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy hit a 67 at Spyglass Hill to let everyone know where he stands.
“As far as the decision to go elsewhere and just come back, I don’t think that’s a direct path,” Fauer said. “They made a decision. There has to be something to it. How small or big it is, it’s not up to me. It will be interesting to see how the next few months, year, two years go. Deaf, I feel like I’ve been saying, ‘And we’re still in that place…’
Fowler doesn’t blame the players for leaving, but he also wants to play with the best players in the world.
“Ultimately, the best players in the game of golf compete against each other more often, and that’s ultimately what we’re trying to do with signature and prestigious events,” he said. Ta. “There are only a handful of people who are in LIV right now, but that only happens in the majors.”
The field for this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is filled with more top talent than ever before. That’s because of its signature event status and the $20 million purse that comes with it.
The PGA Tour recently entered into a deal with Strategic Sports Group, a consortium of professional team owners, for up to $3 billion in investment. This could very well change the Tour’s stance on a potential deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Jordan Spieth, a member of the PGA Tour Policy Committee, said he does not believe the tour needs a PIF at this time. Will that change? Will golf fractures heal?
For now, that division exists, and if Fowler has his way, anyone who wants to return will have to make amends.
