Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimming champion and women's sports activist, spoke out against the Stoneridge Christian High School girls' volleyball team in California after the team forfeited a playoff game rather than play a transgender opponent. A meeting was held.
Last month, Stoneridge Christian High School in Merced, Calif., withdrew from a Northern California Division VI game against San Francisco Waldorf because a male on the rival girls' volleyball team identified as a girl.
School officials cited their Christian faith in a statement reporting the reason for the confiscation. They said: “We have a duty and responsibility to care for the health and safety of our athletes. Therefore, after consulting with our students, coaches and staff, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday's game. Upholding Biblical Truth It means more than the result of the match.”
At a rally she hosted on Dec. 4, Gaines praised her team for refusing to play against male players and also spoke about her own experience of being forced to play against male players.
“I knew it was wrong to have a 6-foot-4 man undressing next to me in the locker room,” Gaines exclaimed. “We knew that we were facing silence from universities and educational institutions, and we knew how effectively they were actually silencing and silencing us. We knew it was all wrong. But none of us, myself included, had the courage that these girls on this court had today.”
Of course, Gaines was forced to compete against Leah Thomas, a male swimmer who represented UPenn in the 2022 college swimming season.
She spoke about the situation at Donald Trump's campaign in October.
“That we were centimeters away from a 6ft 4in man, watching us get naked, and he did the same and exposed a fully intact naked male body. “I was able to share the grotesque details of what it was like,” she said. “There are no words to describe the violation, betrayal and humiliation we felt.
