It seems he’s not making any progress in that lift.
Riley Gaines, an outspoken swimmer, has taken a jab at mayoral hopeful Zoran Mamdani regarding his struggles at the gym, particularly with the “Mumscroney” mishap.
In a video she posted, Gaines showcased her own lift as Mamdani faced embarrassment while needing assistance to lift just 135 pounds during an event in Brooklyn on Saturday.
Gaines pointed out that her lift of 165 pounds was “a relatively simple rep” when she weighed in at 130 pounds.
“Just a side note, Zohran Mamdani,” she mentioned in a video from 2022 about lifting more than her own weight.
She also shared an account of Mamdani’s struggles with the 135-pound bench at the annual Men’s Day Open Street event.
“I’m not suggesting politicians should be judged by their bench press capabilities, but I definitely evaluate them based on how much they can lift,” she remarked on social media.
Gaines wasn’t the only one amused by Mamdani’s display of weakness. Mayor Eric Adams demonstrated his strength by completing multiple reps in the same event, where a spotter wasn’t even needed.
“64 vs. 33. Hard work versus privilege. The results are clear,” Adams noted in a social media post, commenting further that “the weight of the job is too much for ‘Mamscrawny.’ The only thing he knows how to lift is your taxes.”
Former Governor Andrew Cuomo also had something to say about Mamdani amid the ongoing mayoral race.
Gaines became a notable figure after competing against Leah Thomas, the first transgender athlete she faced in college swimming, when Thomas made history as the first openly transgender woman champion in the NCAA women’s division.
