Abortion Rates on the Rise in the US Amid Telehealth Expansion

A recent study indicates that the number of abortions in the United States has increased in recent years, primarily due to the availability of prescribed tablets through telehealth services.

After the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, there has been a notable rise in abortions, as reported by the Associated Press in June 2022.

This significant court decision shifted the regulation of abortion laws back to the states.

The findings stem from the Family Planning Association’s WeCount project, which tracks abortion data across the country.

According to the AP, the latest survey revealed that during the previous year, there were approximately 1.1 million abortions nationwide, averaging nearly 95,000 per month. This figure shows an increase from about 88,000 per month in 2023 and from 80,000 per month from April to December 2022. It’s interesting to note that the WeCount initiative began following the overturning of Roe, and the reported 2022 statistics do not include data from January to March of that year.

On a related note, a recent study suggests that complications associated with abortion drugs are over 20 times higher than what is reflected on the labeling approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as reported by Breitbart News.

A study published by the Center for Ethics and Public Policy (EPPC) at the end of April found that 10.93% of women using Mifepristone, part of a two-drug abortion regimen, experienced severe complications—including sepsis, infection, or significant bleeding—within 45 days. This is a stark contrast to the less than 0.5% reported in clinical trials found on FDA drug labels.

Interestingly, Mifepristone was fast-tracked for approval in 2000, deemed necessary for situations classified as “severe or life-threatening” during the Clinton administration, and it had to demonstrate superior effectiveness over surgical abortion.

In 2023, pro-abortion advocates reportedly supplied abortion medications to states where fetal protection laws are in place. Moreover, a YouGov poll revealed that almost half of Democrats support making abortion legal throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy in the US.

Notably, the extensive planned abortion services issued their annual report for 2023-2024 on Mother’s Day weekend.
