Rebecca de Mornay Reflects on Tom Cruise and Their Time Together
Rebecca de Mornay, known for her role in the film “Risky Business,” recently shared her thoughts on her ex-boyfriend, Tom Cruise. The two met in 1982 while filming the movie and were together for nearly three years after its release in 1983. Reflecting on their past, de Mornay expressed pride in Cruise’s achievements, noting, “I’m really proud of him,” at age 65.
In a vibrant recount of their time together, she referred to Cruise as a “major chord” and herself as a “minor chord,” underlining his ambition and dedication to making his dreams a reality. “He always wanted to be a top gun, and that’s what America really wanted, so he did it,” she gushed, admiring his passion and drive.
De Mornay reminisced about their formative years together, stating, “We’ve started this together and we’re seeing what he did with it.” She emphasized how they navigated the early days of fame, recalling, “There were photographers jumping out of the bushes, pre-paparazzi era.” The actress described the swift rise to stardom as both thrilling and somewhat jarring.
Beyond their personal history, De Mornay’s latest project is a thriller titled “Saint Claire,” featuring Bella Thorne and Ryan Phillippe. She mentioned the uniqueness of the script, focusing on a female serial killer with an obsession for Joan of Arc—a perspective she found refreshing.
Throughout her career, de Mornay has taken thoughtful steps to avoid being typecast, especially after gaining attention as a sex symbol. She remarked on the complexity of human connections, suggesting that appealing to people on different levels can transcend mere physical attraction. “I’m an actress, and maybe a sex symbol, but first and foremost, I’m an actress,” she clarified.
As a mother, she has sought a balanced life, choosing roles carefully while ensuring her children remain close to their father. “How do these famous actress kids handle everything? Maybe they’re great at multitasking; I’m not,” she confessed with a hint of uncertainty but also determination.
De Mornay is set to attend the upcoming 70th Taormina Film Festival in Italy, poised to make another mark in her illustrious—but carefully managed—career.
