riverdale star Lili Reinhart revealed on social media Monday night that she has been diagnosed with a new medical condition.
The cause is alopecia, a condition that causes excessive hair loss.
The 25-year-old posted a video of herself undergoing red light therapy and told fans, “I was just diagnosed with alopecia while in the middle of a major depressive episode.”

daily caller report Reinhart has been open about her own struggles with mental health, opening up to fans about her ongoing battle with anxiety and depression.
While Reinhardt isn’t the only celebrity battling hair loss, this is the first time she’s spoken out about it.
Jada Pinkett Smith has also spoken candidly about her battle with alopecia in the past, calling hair loss for women “painful, depressing, and embarrassing.”

Actress Ricki Lake also wrote on Instagram in 2020 that she had struggled with hair loss her entire life.
“I felt weak, embarrassed, in pain, scared, depressed, lonely, everything. It even made me want to kill myself on several occasions.”
Alopecia areata is a specific type of hair loss caused by an autoimmune disease that often results in hair clumping and falling out, and affects approximately 7 million people in the United States and 147 million people worldwide.
There is currently no known treatment, and medical professionals still do not fully understand the underlying cause.
