RNC Acting ‘as If This Is a Party’ Even Though Trump Talked About Mass Deportations

During MSNBC’s coverage of the final day of the Republican National Convention, NBC News politics and national correspondent Jacob Soboroff said, “It’s an indescribable feeling to be in a celebratory room and hear a man behind you talking about deporting more people than President Dwight D. Eisenhower did in 1954,” and after Trump mentioned deportations, “Right now we’re throwing balloons as if it’s a party.”

“Rachel, it’s an indescribable feeling to be in a room like this in a celebratory mood and to hear the man behind me talk about deporting more people than President Dwight D. Eisenhower did in 1954 — a name for this operation that is so racist it has no place on television,” Soboroff said. “He’s talking about deporting over 10 million people from this country who have lived in this country, many of them since they were young, who have contributed to this society, contributed to this economy, lived in all of our neighborhoods and communities. And now we’re throwing balloons as if this is a party. … You can put unity bumper stickers on there, but what we heard tonight was not a message of unity, it was a message of literally kicking millions of people out of our country.”
