RNC evacuated due to suspicious package containing vials of blood

Police confirmed that the Republican National Committee’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a suspicious package.

U.S. Capitol Police confirmed to Fox News that “the suspicious package has been removed.”

With security relaxed, police opened the sidewalk across the street from the RNC and the Capitol Hill Club.

“At approximately 7:45 a.m., USCP was dispatched to the 300 block of SE First Street on a report of a suspicious package,” police said in a statement.

He told Fox News Digital: “The package has just been inspected by our Hazardous Materials Department. There were two vials of blood inside. The origin and contents of the package will be further investigated.”

A heavy police presence was seen outside the RNC, and a hazardous materials team was on the scene.

The officers were seen wearing uniforms identifying them as bomb technicians and K-9 units.

D.C. Fire and EMS also confirmed to Fox News that units were on scene to assist law enforcement while conducting the investigation.
