RNC, NRCC file brief in support of Trump challenge to Colorado ballot decision

The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) simple Supported former President Trump's challenge to the Colorado Supreme Court's decision to exclude him from voting under the 14th Amendment.

“The Colorado Supreme Court's decision is historically implausible,” the brief filed Friday said.

The brief alleges that the Colorado Supreme Court made “numerous legal errors” in interpreting the law. Among the claims: “The President is not an 'officer of the United States' because the Constitution does not include him.”

The joint brief accused other states of taking similar measures against the former president.

“The Colorado Supreme Court was the first to take the bait,” the brief says. “I should have taken a different path.”

The same day the RNC and NRCC filed briefs, the Supreme Court will take up the question of whether Trump is barred from voting in Colorado because of his actions related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. It was determined.

“We stand behind the Democratic-backed and Biden-led campaign to remove President Trump's name from state ballots in 2024, a malicious, election-interfering, and voter-suppression abuse of the 14th Amendment. We welcome a fair hearing in the Supreme Court of Colorado,” Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chan said in a statement.
