Khanna Promises Impeachment of Trump If Democrats Win House
During a recent appearance on MSNBC, California Congressman Ro Khanna expressed his intention to “impeach” President Trump, contingent on the Democrats gaining control of the House. This statement is part of a broader trend among congressional Democrats who have, since Trump’s second term began on January 20, 2025, attempted to introduce impeachment resolutions. Their reasons range from his handling of illegal immigration to a military strike on Iran’s nuclear sites in June 2025. Khanna, speaking with guest host Ali Velshi on “The Briefing,” accused Trump of “threatening war crimes.”
“Absolutely, he should be impeached now,” Khanna stated, emphasizing that Trump’s actions could lead to serious consequences. He suggested that Trump had escalated the situation with Iran, saying the Democrats would take action once they reclaim the House. “They should impeach him for everything he’s done, and depending on the Senate, he might even face conviction,” Khanna added.
On March 21st, Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran via Truth Social, demanding that the regime cease attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, or face repercussions targeting their power plants. Yet, he later indicated that military action would be paused for discussions within his administration.
Notably, Trump faced impeachment twice during his first term, first related to a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and again following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. In both instances, the Senate acquitted him.
In a recent town hall, Democratic Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman from New Jersey projected that her party also aimed to impeach Trump. “The only thing that would remove him is the 25th Amendment. But enforcing that requires the vice president and the Cabinet to oppose him, which is unlikely given his close ties to them,” she explained. “However, if you elect a Democrat to the Senate and House, he’s going to be impeached. That’s one way to remove him.”
