Rob Gronkowski Honors Susan Hurley

Rob Gronkowski took a moment on Tuesday to honor philanthropist and former Patriots cheerleader Susan Hurley.

In an emotional Instagram post, the iconic tight end commended Hurley’s contributions to the New England community, mentioning her involvement with Gronk Playground and highlighting her “strength and resilience.”

“We lost a tough game over the weekend. Susan has known my family and me for many years. She became a dear friend and has supported our foundation more than I can express,” Gronkowski, 36, shared.

The former cheerleader and avid runner passed away after a long battle with ovarian cancer, as her family announced on Saturday.

“Outside of our team, Susan was deeply invested in the Boston Marathon’s charity teams, helping raise substantial funds to support various causes. She did this out of genuine love—for the game, for people, and for helping others, especially children.”

“Her positivity was infectious, and she continued to inspire others, even in her fight against cancer. Her strength truly inspired those around her. She will be greatly missed.”

Hurley was an enthusiastic runner and a cheerleader in the 1980s. The founder of CharityTeams stated, “We have enabled hundreds of runners to meet their goals while raising an impressive $42 million for nonprofits,” as noted on the organization’s website.

Gronkowski, who enjoyed a successful nine-season run with the Patriots, mentioned that without Hurley’s contributions, Gronk Playground wouldn’t have launched in Boston earlier this year.

“Without Susan, there simply would be no Gronk Playground,” he wrote on Instagram. “We’re thankful her legacy continues through the playground, making a meaningful impact on not only the children at the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation but on all the children she inspires every day.”

In the wake of Gronk’s tribute, many members of the Patriots community expressed their condolences to Hurley’s family.

Camille Kostek, a former Patriots cheerleader and Gronkowski’s partner, shared on Instagram: “So heartbroken by this loss 💔 Susan embodied living with purpose and passion. Anyone who met her felt her warmth. Now her spirit lives on at the playground. I will always treasure that last goodbye with you, Susan.”

Julian Edelman, a former Patriots wide receiver, also expressed his sadness: “So sorry to hear of her passing. Susan was an incredible woman.”

Gronkowski retired from the NFL in 2022 after an illustrious 11-year career, culminating with two seasons at the Buccaneers. He is currently part of the “Fox NFL Sunday” team.
