Rob Lowe Shares Advice to His Son on Acting Career
Rob Lowe recently revealed some straightforward advice he gave his 29-year-old son, John Owen Lowe, when he expressed interest in an acting career. He suggested that John simply focus on being a “content creator.” Interestingly, John has just sold a new show to Apple TV+, which has made Lowe quite proud.
“The irony is, I’m really proud of him for creating this new show. It’s a different world now; there’s really no excuse not to produce your own content these days,” said Lowe, who hosts a show called “The Floor.” He emphasized how pleased he is that his son took his advice and found success: “It was easy for him, and I’m glad he did it. It was solid advice.”
The “Parks and Recreation” star has two sons with his wife, Sheryl Berkov. His eldest, Matthew Edward Lowe, age 31, is in finance. “I’m present for both of them,” he shared, reflecting on how parenting continues through all ages. As his sons matured, his guidance evolved as well.
“Matthew is engaged now, so we’re starting to discuss marriage and how to navigate that,” Lowe mentioned, adding that the journey of parenting seems endless. He also recounted with a chuckle how John, after graduating from Stanford, made a surprising choice to pursue acting. Lowe playfully poked fun at this – “Really? You could have just worked at Jamba Juice all day instead?” It’s funny how life takes unexpected turns.
During the chat, Lowe touched on his long-standing friendship with Charlie Sheen, who recently released a memoir detailing his struggles with addiction. Lowe, who has maintained sobriety for 35 years, expressed his support. “I help others, and it’s rewarding,” he said, pleased to see Sheen now finding peace. “Charlie has a unique energy. He’s always been an entertaining person.” It’s refreshing to hear such candid reflections on friendship and personal growth.
