Rob Reiner's son seeks his $1.5M inheritance while being tried for the violent murder of his parents

Accused murderer Nick Reiner is currently engaged in a legal battle to claim an inheritance linked to his parents, whom he allegedly killed in their Los Angeles mansion valued at $20 million.

Recent court documents indicate that he is seeking $750,000 from a $1.5 million trust due to increasing legal expenses.

His father, the renowned director Rob Reiner, and mother Michelle had designated him as the trustee, allowing him to access half of the trust at age 30, and the remaining half at 35.

At 32 years old, Reiner argues that the trustee’s attorney, Paul Kanin, has refused to release the funds, citing “baseless concerns” regarding his capability to manage it. Allegedly, these concerns were outlined in documents acquired by another media outlet.

Reiner has employed a notable defense attorney, Alan Jackson, but the attorney withdrew from the case when Kanin did not comply with the request for funds, leaving Reiner to depend on a public defender.

In his petition, Reiner emphasizes that “time is of the essence” in securing the funds necessary to pay his legal representative, claiming that further delays could endanger his criminal defense.

He insists that he has no alternative but to cover his legal expenses.

His lawyer stated, “Every week of delay hampers Nick’s chosen attorney’s ability to investigate and prepare. This creates a disadvantage for his defense that cannot be rectified.” They also noted that withholding the funds is causing “irreparable harm” which worsens daily.

Reiner’s petition mentions that, for reasons unclear to him, the trustee continues to squander his funds by incessantly hiring lawyers, which allegedly contradicts the terms of the trust.

With a background marked by struggles with substance abuse and mental health, Reiner was arrested for two counts of first-degree murder with an aggravating factor of killing multiple individuals during the incident on December 14.

If convicted, he faces a potential life sentence without parole or even the death penalty.

The shocking stabbings of Rob and Michelle prompted widespread horror in Hollywood, and Nick was detained the day after authorities discovered his parents’ deceased bodies in their Brentwood residence.
