Robbers break into home, but resident grabs gun and fires at suspects — leaving 1 dead and 1 wounded: Sheriff

The robber broke into a Southern California home Tuesday night, but residents grabbed a gun, fired a suspect, leaving one dead and the other injured, San Bernardino Sheriff's Office I said.

Deputies responded to a residence in the 23,000 block of Grand Terrace Road, Grand Terrace, around 9:18 p.m., officials said. The Grand Terrace is approximately 60 miles west of Los Angeles.

“We're going to help people regain our strength.”

The victim said about three suspects had broken into his home and then he was armed with a gun, officials said.

Fearing his safety and self-defense, the victim opened fire at the suspect, and the suspect fled the place in a white sedan, officials said.

Deputies responded to a 76 gas station on Redlands Boulevard after reports of a man lying on the ground after being shot and killed. He was accompanied by a 15-year-old man, officials said.

Deputies detained the juvenile and the 33-year-old injured man was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead, officials added that the investigation determined both the deceased and the juvenile were involved in the home robbery.

It should be noted that authorities did not name the man in the deadly shooting, but that close relatives must be notified.

Just after 10pm, the San Bernardino Police Department responded to another hospital, where the third suspect, identified as 25-year-old Marquez Jackson, was being treated for a bullet wound, officials said.

Jackson underwent surgery and continued to be hospitalized, officials added that Jackson will be booked for robbery and murder upon discharge from the hospital. The juvenile man was also arrested for robbery and murder and booked at the juvenile hall, officials said.
