Investigation into Recent Armed Robbery in Philadelphia Area

Authorities are looking into whether an armed robbery at a Philadelphia area store on Tuesday is connected to a series of similar attacks on armored vehicles this summer.

On Tuesday at noon, two armed individuals made off with between $700,000 and $800,000 from H-Mart in Elkins Park, as reported by Cheltenham Township Police.

The suspects—one wielding an AR-15-style pistol and the other with a handgun—abandoned a nearby vehicle after the heist, according to police reports.

Fortunately, there were no injuries and no shots were fired during the incident.

Cheltenham Township Police Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Snyder mentioned that this robbery is the first of its kind in their area. Investigators are trying to determine if it might be linked to four other recent armored vehicle robberies around the Philadelphia region since June.

On Wednesday, federal prosecutors announced charges against three individuals from Philadelphia for their involvement in a $2 million armed robbery of a Brink’s armored vehicle outside a Home Depot on June 21.

A few days later, another Loomis armored transport vehicle was robbed outside an Aldi in the vicinity. Then, on July 2, a Brink’s truck was hit near a Dollar General in a local shopping area.

Additionally, reports surfaced on July 15 regarding two suspects who robbed an armored vehicle in northeastern Philadelphia.

FBI agent Wayne Jacobs shared with CBS News Philadelphia that law enforcement managed to recover most of the stolen money from the June 21 robbery, along with numerous firearms. Some of the stolen cash was reportedly used to buy jewelry, clothing, and other items.

“If this is the type of activity you are engaged in, looking at the timeline means it’s six weeks from the incident to the arrest,” Jacobs stated.
