Tragic Passing of Robbie Brewer
Robbie Brewer, a short track race car driver, sadly passed away over the weekend following a medical emergency during a race.
Brewer’s vehicle collided head-on with the wall at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Saturday night while he was participating in the 20-lap Sportsman Series race, a weekly event featuring four divisions.
The car came to a halt close to the finish line, and at that point, emergency workers had to remove the roof of the car to get him out.
He was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Officials from the event expressed their grief in a statement on Sunday, conveying their sadness over Brewer’s passing after he had been transported to a medical facility.
“Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, well-respected among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” they stated.
Details surrounding the medical incident that led to his emergency have not yet been disclosed.
Fellow racer Brad Lewis shared his thoughts, saying Brewer was like a brother to him, noting how Brewer’s race shop was nearby. “He was a real talent,” Lewis added, emphasizing that Brewer would be celebrated throughout the rest of the season. “He’ll never be forgotten.”
Brewer had a long history of racing, participating in around 260 sportsmen divisions, and even claimed a championship title in 2011. His legacy at tracks where he competed, like those that hosted pre-season NASCAR Cup Series exhibitions since 1990, will be remembered.
