Robert Carradine Passes Away at 71

Robert Carradine, celebrated for his roles in “Lizzie McGuire” and “Revenge of the Nerds,” has passed away at the age of 71.

His family confirmed the news on Monday, expressing their sorrow in a statement. They described Carradine as a “beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother,” noting his profound impact on those around him.

“In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby has always been a beacon of light to those around him,” the family shared. They emphasized his courageous battle with bipolar disorder for nearly two decades, hoping to inspire others to confront the stigma associated with mental illness. They also requested privacy during this difficult time.

Carradine began his acting career over 50 years ago, with his first significant role in the TV show “Bonanza” in 1971. He went on to appear in several notable films, including John Wayne’s “The Cowboys,” Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets,” and Hal Ashby’s “Coming Home.” Perhaps most remembered is his role as Louis Skolnick in the 1984 classic “Revenge of the Nerds.”

He later had a role on Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire,” playing the father to Hilary Duff’s character.

Interestingly, acting wasn’t his initial passion. Carradine once mentioned in an interview that he had dreams of becoming a race car driver. “I always had a passion to be a race car driver,” he stated, reflecting on his aspirations.

Carradine’s daughter, Ever, known for her role in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” honored her father in a heartfelt post. She described him as kind and humorous, recalling small moments that painted a picture of their close relationship. “If you know my dad, you know he’s the guy who’s always there,” she wrote.

Ever went on to reflect on her unconventional upbringing, thanks to her single father, attributing much of her stability to his love and support. “Whenever someone asks me why I’m normal, I always say it’s because of my dad,” she noted.

Hilary Duff also expressed her condolences on social media, revealing her grief over the loss of her on-screen father. She mentioned the warmth of the McGuire family and shared her sorrow for Carradine’s struggles.

Carradine’s niece, actress Martha Plimpton, shared her own memories, recalling a childhood visit to Los Angeles that included Carradine’s playful teasing and warmth. “He was the best of my eight brothers,” she wrote, detailing the kindness and talent he possessed.

Robert’s brother Keith spoke about the family’s desire to raise awareness about bipolar disorder, emphasizing that there’s no shame in facing such challenges. He remembered Carradine fondly, cherishing his humor and accepting nature.
