Robert De Niro Supports Transgender Daughter Ean
Robert De Niro continues to express his unwavering support for his transgender daughter, Ean, who is 29 years old. In a recent appearance on “Entertainment of the Night,” he spoke about the importance of supporting one’s children.
“As long as they’re not hurting themselves, you have to support them, even if they’re engaging in destructive things,” the actor remarked.
Ean, previously known as Aaron, came out as a transgender woman in an interview last April, and De Niro was quick to show his support publicly.
“I loved and supported Aaron as a son, and now I love and support Aaron as a daughter. I don’t see what the big deal is,” De Niro said in a statement at the time.
“I love all my kids,” he added, highlighting the bond he shares with all his children.
The 81-year-old actor shares Ean with former partner Toukie Smith. They also have a twin son, Julian. In addition, De Niro has five other children, including his daughter Drena, 57, and son Raphael, 48.
In a recent interview, Ean mentioned that Halle Bailey’s portrayal in “The Little Mermaid” had a significant impact on her transition. “I think most of my transition was influenced by the representation of Black women,” she noted.
Ean also shared that being a transgender woman is about being “honest and open,” especially on platforms like social media. Speaking about her upbringing, she acknowledged her parents’ imperfections but expressed gratitude for their willingness to support her journey.
De Niro’s supportive stance aligns with the legacy of his late father, painter Robert De Niro Sr., who faced challenges in his life regarding his own identity. The actor has also publicly celebrated his father’s influence through participation in documentaries.
De Niro was honored with GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award in 2016, recognizing his commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
