Robert De Niro’s onscreen tough-guy persona appears to emerge amid verbal fisticuffs with Trump supporters in NYC

Actor Robert De Niro is known worldwide for playing iconic gangsters and tough guys on the silver screen since the early 1970s.

Whether it be playing a young, murderous Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II or the terrifying psychopath Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, De Niro can certainly have an intimidating presence in front of the camera.

But a different kind of lens was trained on De Niro on Tuesday morning, when he appeared in New York City to deliver a full-throated attack on former President Donald Trump on behalf of the Biden administration, just outside the Manhattan courtroom where closing arguments were underway in Trump’s Stormy Daniels trial.

But De Niro may not have anticipated the hordes of Trump supporters who showed up to heckle and denounce the actor, and the backlash continued almost from start to finish.

“I mean, this is really… even people here are just… kind of weird. It’s really weird. And this is… Donald Trump’s creation. He should be telling them not to do this. But he just…”

One video was caught As De Niro, wearing a COVID-19 mask, walked down the street with a crew of nearly a dozen men, a member of the audience yelled at the actor, “Walk down the street by yourself! You dare!” Believe it or not, De Niro actually turned around to see who was yelling. Perhaps life was imitating art.Are you talking to me?” Something like that.

Another clipDe Niro is standing at a microphone, but multiple people can be heard yelling at him in the distance, with one person yelling, “Fuck you!” The actor struggles to deal with the vitriol and finishes his sentences. “I mean, this is really…even people here…kind of crazy. Really crazy. And this is…created by Donald Trump. He should be telling people not to do this. But he’s just…”

Blaze News reported on Tuesday that De Niro had a casual altercation with someone he verbally argued with during a press conference.

“On January 6th, as Republicans in Congress cowardly tried to keep a loser like Trump in the White House and as Trump-inspired insurrectionists stormed the Capitol, brave police officers risked their lives to protect our country — to defend our democracy. These are true heroes,” De Niro said in the video.

Turning to former Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone, who were standing behind De Niro during the press conference, De Niro continued, “These men are the true heroes. They risked their lives to stand up for despicable people, for Mr. Trump.”

At that moment, someone near the press conference blurted out to De Niro, “They lied under oath.”

De Niro didn’t seem to like that, and seemed to emphasize his wise man persona with the volume and tone of his voice.

De Niro: “They lied under oath? Who lied under oath? What are you talking about?”

Crowd member: “Two traitors behind you.”

De Niro: Excuse me?

Crowd member: “Two traitors behind you.”

De Niro: Did they lie under oath?

Crowd member: “Exactly.”

De Niro: What are you talking about?

Crowd member: “They are traitors.”

De Niro: “Are they traitors?” (That’s what the guy said, by the way, Bobby.)

“I don’t know, my friend, I don’t even know how to treat you. I don’t even know how to treat you,” the actor continued. “They stood there. They didn’t have to. And there were other guys who were probably in a little bit of collusion with them. They found a way to get away. These guys didn’t. They stood there and they fought for us, for you, for you!”

“They weren’t fighting for me,” one member of the crowd responded.

“Right? No, they fought for you so you can be here right now,” De Niro maintained.

During his final act, De Niro got into a violent argument on his way back to his car, surrounded by critics and a group of men who were apparently trying to protect him.

Trump supporters shouted “Impostor!” “Traitor!” “Nobody!” “What a terrible movie!” and “Brat!” NBC News reported..

“We’re not trying to intimidate you!” De Niro yelled back, pointing his index finger at him. “Trying to intimidate you is what Trump does! … We will fight back! We, the Democrats, are trying to be the gentlemen of the world! You are gangsters! You are gangsters!”

“You’re out of luck!” another person shouted at the actor, at which point the actor clearly lost it and shouted a good-natured “Fuck you!” at his opponent.

On the plus side, at least one person exclaimed, “I loved your performance in Taxi Driver!”
