Robert Griffin III has a unique perspective on the Indianapolis Colts’ objectives this season, suggesting it’s not simply about achieving victories.
The former NFL quarterback noted that while Anthony Richardson isn’t starting, Daniel Jones, previously of the Giants, has been named the starter. He expressed on social media that he believes the Colts are actually positioning themselves for potential future star Arch Manning.
Griffin continued to elaborate, questioning whether Manning’s entry into the league would be in 2026 or 2027, hinting that their current quarterback strategy seems puzzling.
He also included a quote from Manning, whose comments were echoed by his grandfather, Archie Manning, later that Tuesday.
“The Colts seem to lack sufficient trust in Richardson to start him over Daniel Jones. It’s time for Richardson to receive a fresh opportunity,” Griffin stated on social media. “This approach has been effective for players like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Geno Smith.”
The choice to start Jones has taken many by surprise and stirred discontent within Richardson’s camp, prompting his agent to express strong sentiments to ESPN regarding the situation.
Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft, making this decision particularly noteworthy.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Jones is the “season starting quarterback,” emphasizing he doesn’t want to make hasty changes.
Richardson, who has faced injury setbacks resulting in only 15 games played over two seasons, conveyed a resilient attitude, stating there are “no hard feelings,” and that he is committed to his development as a player.
“I need to keep evolving; I won’t limit myself in pursuit of being a starter,” he stated.
