Emotional Struggles at the Masters: Robert McIntyre’s Turbulent Round
Anyone who’s ever played golf can empathize with Robert McIntyre’s struggles on the 15th hole during the Masters on Thursday.
On that first day at Augusta National, the world’s No. 8 player hit a low point when he found water not once, but twice. His frustration boiled over as he flicked his middle finger at the water while cameras captured the moment.
It was a challenging beginning for McIntyre, concluding the hole with a quadruple-bogey 9.
By the end of the day, he was tied for 82nd place with a score of 8-over 80.
As reported by the Telegraph, his frustration started well before the 15th, peaking on the 12th hole where he exclaimed, “Now it’s going from left to right, Jesus fuck!” after an unsatisfactory tee shot.
Things didn’t improve on the 13th, where he was heard yelling an expletive after missing the green.
On the 17th hole, McIntyre was seen angrily slamming a golf club down the fairway.
The Telegraph mentioned that his outbursts might draw a warning from the notoriously strict Augusta National officials, who usually prefer to issue stern warnings rather than impose fines.
Known for his fiery demeanor, McIntyre faced criticism last week during the Valero Texas Open, where he candidly said some of his shots were “shit.”
In an earlier conversation, he acknowledged his emotional nature, admitting to having “bad language” but stating, “that’s just me.”
He expressed his commitment to performing well, saying, “I’m a sportsman, and this is a live sport. I’m going to react how I want to react. I try to do the best I can. I’ll take time to sign autographs with kids, but while I’m playing, I’m redlining.”
Meanwhile, defending champion Rory McIlroy kicked off the Masters strongly, finishing the day with a 5-under 67, putting him tied at the top with Sam Burns.
