Robert Morris’ Rob Carter Jr. makes insane one-handed interception

Rob Carter Jr. will take the place of Odell Beckham Jr.

If you had never heard of the Robert Morris University cornerback before this weekend, you'd be forgiven.

But what about now?

Carter was the most talked-about highlight player of the first weekend of the college football season and is the leading candidate for Catch of the Year.

Alone on the field covering Utah State wide receiver Grant Paige, Carter dropped back to line up with Paige and made an incredible one-handed interception that stunned the crowd, broadcasters and viewers.

Carter fell backwards, grabbed the ball in mid-air with one hand, twisted his body around and spun 360 degrees before collapsing to the turf with the ball in hand.

Carter was the man of the game late in the first half with Robert Morris leading Utah State 14-10.

But Utah State scored 26 points in the second half to pull away with the victory.

As expected, Carter earned the No. 1 spot on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays on Saturday.

“Look again,” said anchor Linda Cohn. “Are you kidding me?”

The Mountain West Network announcers were literally laughing at the absurdity of the catch.

Barstool Sports' “Big Cat” Ask X What if it was the “greatest interception of all time”?

Who is Carter?

He is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound sophomore from Danville, Pennsylvania, about four hours across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh-based Robert Morris.

He played in 10 games last season and made 22 tackles.

It was Beckham Jr. who standardized the one-handed catch with his career-changing one-handed touchdown in a Giants-Cowboys game in 2014.

Ever since, receivers around the world have been practicing the one-handed catch in preparation for catching passes they can't catch in a game.

But it's rare for a defensive back to accomplish that.

So much for the adage that cornerbacks are deft receivers.
