Tuesday was the longest day of practice at Jets training camp, going as planned for a 2 hour, 25 minute workout.
Coach Robert Saleh felt it was important to motivate his players during this summer period, and training focused on 11-on-11 team work.
“That was good,” he said. “I think we scripted almost three quarters of football with the first and second groups. We didn’t flinch, which was good. So we’re in pretty good shape.”
Saleh is expected to practice extensively again soon as the Jets prepare for their season opener on Sept. 9 at San Francisco.
It’s a different philosophy than how Saleh has run training camp the past few years.
“It’s all a progression, so we’ve been practicing incrementally and taking every precaution to prepare for Week 1 and continue to put the load on the guys to get them ready to play a full game,” Saleh said. “So, so far we’ve had about three quarters worth of practice and we’re confident we can play a full game, but we’ve got another long game ahead of us.”
The absence of new signing Haason Reddick and the departure of Bryce Huff have raised question marks on the defensive line.
That means more responsibility for third-year pro Jermaine Johnson, who had a big game last year recording 55 tackles and 7.5 sacks.
“Honestly, I’m trying to make every play, not to sound corny,” Johnson said, “but I think I can do that, and when the opportunity presents itself, I think I can be successful. [the play]There is no more pressure that someone puts on me than I put on myself.

“I just have a lot of confidence. I came here, I did it, and now I’m just looking to take my game to the next level.”
The offensive players landed the biggest hits during practice.
Running back Breece Hall took down linebacker Quincy Williams after making a short catch during a team practice.
It got a huge reaction from the crowd.
