Robert Saleh's strategy for Will Levis following a disappointing Titans season

Will Levis Still in the Mix for Titans

Robert Saller hasn’t dismissed Will Levis as a possibility just yet.

During a press conference on Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the Titans’ new head coach shared his thoughts on what he desires in a backup quarterback to Cam Ward.

Of course, he was asked about his initial thoughts on Levis, a second-round pick in 2023 and former Tennessee starter who missed a season due to shoulder surgery.

Saleh, who is 47 years old, expressed enthusiasm about having Levis on the roster. He recounted their only prior encounter, where Levis threw for 192 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against Saleh’s New York Jets in 2024.

“He has impressive talent, a great build, and strong arm strength. I’m excited to see how he fits in,” he said.

Levis, now 26, played 21 games for the Titans during the 2023-2024 season, but quickly became the subject of trade rumors after the team selected Ward as the first overall pick.

However, he remained with the team. Following the draft, general manager Mike Borgonzi denied the trade speculation, emphasizing the need for “competition” in the quarterback position, something that Levis certainly brings to the table.

Unfortunately, that competition was cut short when Levis underwent season-ending surgery last July, allowing Ward to take over the starting role.

Now, a year later, Levis’s future with the franchise appears even more uncertain. However, he has had positive discussions with Saleh that turned the ambiguity into a chance for a fresh start.

“Let’s make this offseason our best yet,” Saleh told reporters, repeating his encouragement to Levis. “Let’s compete like crazy and see where it takes us.”

“I’m really excited to have him on this football team,” he added.

The Titans hired Saleh, who had previously returned to the 49ers as defensive coordinator in 2025, after a disappointing second consecutive 3-14 season, which led to the firing of former head coach Brian Callahan after just six games that year.
