Robinson lashes out at Republican senator amid tensions over campaign

North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson recently lashed out at Sen. Thom Tillis (R.N.C.) at a campaign event, calling the senior senator “on the back foot” following tensions over his continued campaigning. “It's low,” he criticized.

Robinson, speaking Saturday, said the war is being fought on “four fronts”: in Israel, Ukraine, the U.S.-Mexico border and “on the streets to save children.” With these issues ongoing, Tillis' criticism is unhelpful, he suggested.

“We don't need a toad with a liver like a lily and a gelatinous back and no spine, like Thom Tillis, who wants to cross his legs,” Robinson said, to applause and cheers from those in attendance. .

“I called him 'Spineless,'” he continued. “And that's why I called him 'spineless,' because he would rather stand with Mark and fight the Democrats who are trying to do this.” -Because I'm worried about standing up to Robinson and other Republicans like me to destroy this country. ”

Robinson's comments were recorded by those in attendance; Posted on YouTube.

The Hill has reached out to Robinson's campaign and Tillis' office for comment.

Robinson's comments come as his campaign is in turmoil following an explosive CNN report last month that exposed widespread inflammatory comments the lieutenant governor made on message boards on pornographic websites over the course of several years. It was held inside. Among the comments: Robinson calling himself a “black Nazi” and wanting to bring back slavery, and calling Martin Luther King Jr. a “communist bastard.” is included.

Robinson denied the story and vowed to remain in the race, but in the aftermath, Tillis and other Republicans distanced themselves from him.

Tillis said in response to the report that Robinson should “take immediate legal action” if it is false, and that if the report is true, “he will be against President Trump and all Republicans. “We have a responsibility to take responsibility for our actions and protect our future.” In front of himself in North Carolina and our party. ”

He also addressed the presidential election and voting, calling on Republicans to focus on “winnable” elections. The senator has since said he would not campaign for Robinson and declined to say whether he would vote for him.

Polls show Robinson trailing his Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Josh Stein, by a wide margin.

Even though former President Trump and Vice President Harris are in a nearly even presidential race, Stein has a roughly 15-point lead in The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters polling average.
