Roblox Eliminates Over 100 Custom Game Modes Related to Charlie Kirk Assassination

Roblox Takes Action Against Violent Game Modes

Roblox, the widely popular online gaming platform, is currently dealing with a grooming scandal. In response, the company has swiftly removed over 100 custom game modes that glorified the assassination of Charlie Kirk. These experiences, designed by users, targeted children who use the platform regularly.

The online gaming giant, which allows players to create their own game modes, acted promptly after discovering content that violated its rules regarding the depiction of real-world violence. According to a spokesperson, Roblox strictly prohibits creations that reenact sensitive events or promote hate and terrorism against individuals or groups.

This quick response followed a call to action from Rep. Anna Paulin Naruna (R-FL). She took to social media to raise alarms about the problematic content referencing Kirk’s assassination. Having previously worked with Kirk as his Director of Hispanic Engagement at Turning Point USA, Luna urged Apple to consider removing Roblox from the App Store if the content was not addressed immediately. Just an hour after her post, she noted “full cooperation” from Roblox and other social media platforms she contacted regarding the violent material.

In response to Luna’s concerns, Roblox CEO David Baszucki expressed his sadness over Kirk’s death and assured that the platform would “act quickly” against any gaming experiences in violation of its regulations.

Roblox is under pressure to tackle serious issues surrounding grooming and child predators on its platform. Earlier in August, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrell filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging that the company failed to protect children from groomers.

The lawsuit describes how inadequate safety protocols on the platform contributed to a risky environment for children. Murrell contended that Roblox’s focus on user growth and profits over safety compromises the well-being of young users. Her remarks reflected serious concerns about harmful content and predator activity thriving on the site.

The lawsuit follows Roblox’s ban of certain YouTubers who sought to expose predators using the platform. These YouTubers faced accusations of engaging in harmful activities that endangered users and undermined Roblox’s safety initiatives.

The legal document outlines how groomers exploited Roblox to target children. An example cited involved a minor, who after joining Roblox and Discord believing it was safe, received suggestive messages from strangers. Initially resistant, this minor ended up sharing explicit content in exchange for gift cards, demonstrating the potential dangers that lurked on the platform.

Authorities are concerned about the ongoing risks as it appears predators have exploited at least 26 other children through platforms like Roblox and Discord.
