Roblox Suspends YouTuber for Reporting Online Predators
Roblox, a widely-used gaming platform among children and teens, has taken action against a YouTuber, Schlep, after he attempted to expose potential predators on the site. The platform has faced past scrutiny regarding allegations of grooming and other unsafe behaviors.
Schlep, who has around 684,000 subscribers, received a suspension from Roblox, which cited violations of its community guidelines and terms of service. He shared a screenshot of the communication on his social media account, where Roblox accused him of engaging in illegal activities that compromised user safety.
The platform’s notice claimed that Schlep was involved in “dangerous conversations” with children and was directing them to communicate outside of Roblox, thereby increasing risk for young users. They emphasized their commitment to combating child exploitation through advanced safety measures and collaboration with law enforcement.
Roblox noted, “While we understand your intentions might be to protect kids, your approach could be undermining our safety protocols.” They argued that Schlep’s methods could lead to greater harm rather than helping to resolve issues.
In response, Schlep rejected these claims, arguing that his reporting efforts were vital in catching predators on the platform. He mentioned, “In the past year, my team and I have identified and reported six offenders within the Roblox community.” He expressed concern that Roblox’s actions might shield some predators from accountability.
Schlep further clarified that the tactics employed by his team, which included gathering evidence from voice chats mainly on gaming platforms, were necessary to highlight predatory behavior.
Reflecting on his own experiences, Schlep shared that he had been groomed as a child by developers on Roblox, detailing how his mother had previously alerted the company about the situation, but felt ignored. He stated, “They brushed her off,” underscoring his frustration.
He expressed a deep desire to protect future generations from the traumas he faced, saying, “I just can’t understand why they wouldn’t want to help.” His statements come amidst ongoing scrutiny of Roblox and other platforms facing lawsuits concerning child safety issues.
