Robot humanoid pursues wild boars in dramatic footage

Pig and Dash

It seems humanity might have stumbled upon an unusual way to address the problem of feral pigs invading cities in Europe—an AI-driven robot designed for hunting boars.

In a rather amusing video, an AI-powered robot is seen trying to scare away a herd of wild pigs in Warsaw, Poland.

The clip features one of the G1 humanoid robots by Chinese company Unitree, humorously named Edward Warchocki. The caption reads, “I’m driving a boar into the forest,” which adds a slightly dystopian twist to the scenario. This post gained a remarkable 3.8 million views on X.

The robot is shown jogging through a vacant parking lot while pursuing a rather quick pig. Unfortunately, the swift creature evades capture, prompting the robot to raise its fist in frustration—sort of reminiscent of scenes from the animated science fiction film “Wild Robot.”

At first glance, it looks like these robotic hunters are far from effectively tackling the city’s boar problem. The issue has escalated to the point where local authorities have resorted to shooting these animals in affected areas.

Yet, it turns out, this robotic pig chase was primarily a publicity stunt.

Warchocki is not just any robot; he has become quite the influencer in Poland, showcasing a range of anthropomorphic antics, from singing on stage to running after marathon participants and even visiting the Polish parliament.

Despite the playful intent behind this demonstration, users on X found it quite entertaining, with remarks like, “He’s a hero we don’t deserve,” and others praising the clever use of robotics.

Interestingly, the U.S. has its own version of a robotic troll named “Jake the Rizbot,” which is also a Unitree G1 humanoid sporting a cowboy hat. This robot is known for spouting Gen Z slang and has even made headlines for stirring up some controversy, particularly after an incident involving a streamer who reportedly assaulted it.

The incident led the robot’s developers to file a lawsuit seeking significant damages due to the negative attention it generated.

However, concerns about Unitree robots extend beyond being just a source of amusement.

There have been alarming reports of serious malfunctions involving these humanoid robots. Recently, one operator was kicked by a Unitree robot he was controlling, and another instance involved a droid unintentionally slapping a child during a dance demonstration gone wrong.

Technology experts warn that such incidents might indicate more severe repercussions as these robots become more prevalent in various sectors, from healthcare to domestic assistance.
