Rock band leader criticizes music festival for canceling performance due to 'political reasons'

Lowcut Connie’s Performance Canceled Over Political Concerns

Lowcut Connie, a rock band from Philadelphia, recently announced that their upcoming performance at a local music festival has been canceled, allegedly due to political reasons.

Adam Weiner, the band’s frontman, shared the news on social media on Monday, revealing that they were removed from the lineup at the Rocking the River festival in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, set for Friday.

“For the first time, my show was canceled for ‘political’ reasons,” Weiner wrote on Facebook. “Promoters in Lucerne County believe that having Lowcut Connie perform will stir up controversy.”

This annual summer concert series is promoted as a free event for all ages, and an AC/DC cover band has taken their place in the lineup.

In a video message, Weiner expressed his disappointment with the county’s decision, calling it “very upsetting.”

“Why did they cancel the show?” he questioned, noting that they didn’t provide specific reasons but suggested that the cancellation was indeed political. He reflected on this decision, offering a bit of context on diversity and inclusion.

Weiner insisted that diversity is a vital aspect of America and stated that he won’t back down from using the term. “People might not like the word, but I’m going to keep using it because everyone should feel welcome at our shows. Terms like ‘variety’ and ‘inclusion’ shouldn’t be seen as bad,” he asserted.

Interestingly, he also hinted that their protest song, “Livin’ in the USA,” might have played a role in the cancellation.

This song, released in May, speaks to the anxiety and fear many people in the U.S. are currently facing. “These attacks by ICE are inhumane and anti-American,” Weiner stated.

He criticized the promoter’s choice, labeling it “cowardly,” and lamented the missed opportunity for a great show. He likened his situation to that of late-night host Stephen Colbert, pointing out the challenges faced by artists with progressive views.

A representative from Luzerne County stated that Lowcut Connie was also removed from a Kennedy Center show in March due to protests against President Donald Trump’s involvement with the venue.
