The Phoenix Suns have reportedly finalized a trade that sends Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. This deal, which took place on a Sunday, marks one of the first significant moves of the NBA offseason.
Durant, who joined the Suns from the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season, will be traded in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 draft, and five second-round picks, according to reports.
Rumors about Durant’s potential trade had been circulating for weeks—especially after the Suns struggled to a 36-46 record and missed the playoffs last season under coach Mike Budenholzer. The team had high hopes that pairing Durant with Devin Booker and later Bradley Beal would lead them back to the NBA Finals.
However, the Suns were unable to achieve that goal. They fell short in the Western Conference semifinals during the 2022-23 season and exited in the first round in the 2023-24 playoffs.
Durant, at 36, remains one of the league’s top scorers when he’s fit, averaging 26.6 points per game with a shooting percentage of 52.7%. He has been selected as an All-Star each year since 2009-10, although he did miss the entire 2019-20 season due to injury.
In return, the Suns will add two key players: Green and Brooks. Green has been a consistent performer, playing all 82 games in the last two seasons and averaging 21 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game at just 23 years old.
Brooks, 29, is also on the move again after previously being traded to the Rockets by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2023. During his tenure in Houston, he has averaged 13.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
The Rockets, who came in second in the Western Conference last season with a 52-30 record, will be looking to build on that success with this trade.
