British singer-songwriter Rod Stewart mocked former President Trump for questioning Vice President Harris’ race and ethnicity, saying he didn’t know Trump was an “orange person” until the Republican presidential nominee suddenly became one.
“I didn’t know he was orange until a few years ago, when he turned orange,” Stewart says. I have written His post included four photos of Trump’s face lined up next to each other, showing his skin gradually turning orange.
“I respect both candidates but I clearly don’t respect him because all of a sudden he changed his mind and became an Orange member. I think someone should look into that,” he added.
The wording of the post echoes Trump’s widely panned comments at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference last week.
In an interview with NABJ, Trump falsely said Harris used to “just promote her Indian heritage” but had recently “become black.”
“I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago when she happened to be black, and now she wants to be known as black,” Trump told an audience of black journalists last week.
“But you know, I respect both people, but she’s clearly not. She’s been Indian her whole life and then all of a sudden she turns around and she’s black,” he continued. “I think someone should look into that.”
Harris’ mother immigrated from India and her father from Jamaica, and she has championed both sides of her roots in public statements throughout her career.
According to British news, the tweet was first shared on a big screen at a Las Vegas concert. outletStewart later posted a photo on Instagram of the moment she appeared to have sent the fake tweet during a concert, with the enlarged tweet taking up most of the image, and Stewart and her fellow musicians on stage below it.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for response.
