The family of rodeo star Spencer Wright said Friday that their young son’s prognosis is “not good,” even though the little warrior surprised doctors by waking up from a coma just hours earlier.
It’s unclear how long three-year-old Levi was submerged in the water after driving his toy tractor into the river, but his mother, Callie Wright, revealed that an MRI scan a few days later showed negative results.
“We are devastated but this is only a suggestive picture of quality of life. The real story for us is what Levi will do in the next few days,” his grieving mother says. I wrote on Facebook.
“Please continue to pray! I have not given up on my baby yet. I am trying to find a neurologist or other educated specialist with expertise in this field who can do an MRI for him, and will just wait and see how my strong boys do over the next few days.”
The disappointing news came just hours after Curry Wright excitedly told police her son had woken up while his parents were talking to doctors about excavators and tractors.
Levi had been declared brain dead and beyond saving, so his parents had prepared to remove him from life support a few days ago, but decided against it at the direction of medical professionals.
Callie Wright, who has been sharing Levi’s progress on social media, clarified late Friday that “waking up” was not an indication of Levi’s progress.
She noted that on Friday morning, the boy’s eyes were open for a few moments and he was wiggling purposefully, not reflexively.
“We still have a very long and incredible road ahead of us full of unknowns. Spencer and I felt like he knew we were there and could hear us. He has been heavily sedated since then but is still awake for short periods of time,” Kari Wright wrote.
Levi sneaked out of his parents’ home on Tuesday and drove his toy tractor into a river in Utah, but was not initially expected to survive.
Witnesses saw him fall into the water, but he disappeared beneath the fast-moving current.

Levi was dragged about a mile down the river, but rescuers are unsure how long he was in the water.
“He has the will to breathe, but his little sweet brain has been starved of oxygen for so long that it cannot recover from that,” the Wrights said in their first update as they made plans to prepare for end-of-life care.
But family spokeswoman Mindy Sue Clark said Wednesday they had changed plans after receiving advice from new doctors who “felt strongly that we needed to give our son more time.”
Spencer Wright, 33, is ranked 35th in the world for 2023 by ProRodeo.
He comes from a family of famous cowboys, including his father, Bill Wright, a Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer.
