World Series champion Roger Clemens shared his thoughts on Ryan Wesley Routh’s recent conviction for attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump. In a conversation on “The Will Cain Show,” Clemens expressed his disbelief over the incident, noting, “You’re just taking a big deep breath. In Pennsylvania, when they put a crazy guy in a rally with a golf rangefinder, I’m still shaking my head.”
Clemens, a known supporter of Trump who has enjoyed golfing with him before, reflected on the risky nature of the attempted assassination, which occurred while Trump was on a golf course. “The last time I played golf with him in Virginia, he hit the ball beautifully. But it’s a bit intense when you have 30 golf carts and a SWAT team and Secret Service around you,” he remarked.
He expressed admiration for Trump, saying, “I love him. The reason I voted for him is because he’s nonsense, common sense, not nonsense. I love that about him.”
While discussing differing political views, Clemens encouraged those who might not support Trump to channel their energy into supporting any president. “I didn’t vote for [Obama], but once he became our president, I was rooting for him to do something for us, and that’s how I feel people should always come together.”
Routh, aged 59, faced multiple charges, including attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate. Following the verdict, he reportedly attempted to stab someone in the neck with a pen before being restrained.
