Roger Federer’s $949M wealth: A look into his Swiss properties, Dubai apartment, and private jet lifestyle

Roger Federer Loses Billionaire Status, But Wealth Remains Impressive

Roger Federer might not be a billionaire anymore, but there’s still plenty of financial stability in his future.

The famous tennis player, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, now has an estimated net worth of around $949 million. This change is largely due to a significant drop in the value of his shares in On Holding, the sneaker company where he has a substantial investment. Their recent sales were disappointing, leading to a sharp decline in stock prices.

Even so, the 44-year-old retiree has built an impressive portfolio, which includes luxury properties in Switzerland, a lavish penthouse in Dubai, and years of access to private jets. His Dubai apartment is located in the prestigious Le Reve skyscraper and was reportedly acquired for about $23.5 million back in 2014.

This five-bedroom penthouse features an en suite bathroom, marble flooring, coffered ceilings, and breathtaking views of Dubai Marina, according to reports.

In addition to this, there’s also a penthouse that covers roughly 6,100 square feet, complete with an 870-square-foot terrace. Residents of the luxury building can avail themselves of services ranging from chauffeur-driven cars to helicopters, all managed through a concierge.

Back in Switzerland, Federer has a similarly impressive real estate portfolio. In 2008, he purchased a retreat in Valbella, where he replaced an existing structure with a custom chalet that includes artisanal woodwork, open spaces, and, of course, a tennis court.

According to sources, he still owns the chalet and the adjacent property used by his parents, which are connected through an underground passage.

Federer’s most ambitious real estate project sits on the shores of Lake Zurich in Rapperswil-Jona, where he bought a large lakeside property. Reports indicate that construction is ongoing there, with plans for multiple buildings spread across an area of approximately 17,000 square meters.

Although he is originally from Basel, he has also owned a three-story glass house in Wollerau overlooking Lake Zurich, though it’s unclear if he still possesses it.

Federer’s extravagant lifestyle doesn’t stop with real estate. Since 2004, he has been described as an “Owner and Ambassador” for NetJets, giving him long-term access to private aviation. However, it remains uncertain whether he owns a jet outright.

His long-standing relationship with Mercedes-Benz has led to speculation about his luxury car collection, but confirmation is elusive.

Throughout his career, Federer earned about $130.6 million in prize money but amassed even more off the court. Forbes once estimated that he had around $1 billion in endorsements and business endeavors by the time he retired in 2022, including a substantial 10-year deal with Uniqlo worth $300 million, signed after his exit from Nike.

Federer’s most notable venture might be his investment in On Holding, which elevated his net worth into billionaire territory when its value surged. However, that changed this week as stock values plummeted.

According to Scott Martin, a partner at Kingsview Wealth Management, Federer’s financial achievements stem from his strategic thinking, which set him apart from many athletes focused solely on endorsement income. “His investment in On Holding exemplifies his understanding of the value of ownership,” Martin remarked.

In a closing thought, Martin emphasized, “Income and wealth aren’t the same. Prize winnings and endorsements generate income, but true wealth comes from owning valuable assets.”
