Goodell Anticipates Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sees Bad Bunny’s performance at the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show as a potential “exciting and unifying moment.”
During the fall league meeting in New York, he addressed the backlash following the decision to feature the Puerto Rican artist on one of the biggest stages in football next February in Santa Clara, California. “This choice was made with careful consideration,” Goodell stated. “Honestly, I’ve never chosen an artist without some criticism. It’s difficult to avoid when there are hundreds of millions watching.”
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, was announced as the performer for Super Bowl LX back in September. The announcement faced criticism from various figures, including former President Donald Trump, who described the decision as “absolutely ridiculous.”
Goodell expressed confidence that viewers will be treated to a “great show” during the game. “I’m certain it’s going to be fantastic,” he remarked. “He knows the importance of this platform, so it should be a memorable experience for everyone.”
Interestingly, Bad Bunny has had his share of critiques toward Trump, previously declaring that he wouldn’t tour in the U.S. due to concerns about Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “I had my reasons for avoiding the U.S., and none of them stemmed from hatred. I have performed here plenty of times,” he shared in a recent interview. He added, “But there was a concern—like, what if ICE shows up at my concert?”
Despite everything, Bad Bunny has made light of the situation. He joked during a recent appearance on “Saturday Night Live” about the time he has to learn a language, addressing one of the criticisms directly, saying he’s “so excited” for the Super Bowl and recognizes that his fans worldwide share this excitement.
Super Bowl LX is scheduled for February 8, 2026, and it seems like there’s a mix of anticipation and skepticism surrounding the event.
